Annie Stone

The focus of Annie’s work is mainly on nature and its beauty. She finds inspiration in images of creatures, as well as the patterns, colors and textures of nature in the hopes that they will motivate people to care about what is being lost in nature rather than on emphasizing current events or the pursuit of wealth and power. She wants to encourage them to be able to set times to let go of technological devices to help build a presence in human relationships and encourage compassion, connection and empathy towards all living creatures.

She believes that connection to the natural world could encourage patience, kindness, generosity and gentleness which is sorely needed in today’s world.

She chooses images from various sources for her collages inspired by creatures, images, patterns, color and texture, and assembles her collages using a unique technique that creates a detectable layering. She adheres chosen images to mixed media paper and meticulously hand cuts them, often placing them in unlikely relationship to each other creating unlikely yet believable relationships to create a new whole.

Her process isn’t necessarily an intellectual or conscious one. She never knows what the finished collage will look in the end; she only knows there is a sense of something that she begins to see and feel as it evolves into the final piece.
