Rickie Sanders

I am a child of the 60’s, a person of color, a PhD, a Southerner, a woman (she/her), a geographer, an idealist, an optimist, and a lover of beauty.

The challenge is to blend all the parts of myself until they form a seamless whole and someone looking at my work will see who I am.

I work with paper, glue, and scissors – very little else.

When I have translated what goes on in my head into an image, it’s more than a breath of fresh air; it’s a warm cup of tea on a cold day. The reader lingers, first doing the necessary work of simply seeing what is there and then, once they have taken it in-will breathe deeply, and never want to leave the place I have taken them. Eccentric yes; ordinary no; respectful of the world that people imagine and build for themselves out of nothing.

My work has been exhibited locally and internationally—at Temple University, Abington Arts Center (juried), Center on the Hill, AIRD Art Gallery/Toronto (juried), Avenue Coffee Shop, 3rd St Gallery, DaVinci Art Alliance (group show) and Mt. Airy Art Garage.  I am enjoying membership in Philadelphia Collage Works.
